To ensure effective tutoring sessions, TASC has the following
expectations of students engaging student peer tutors:

                                          - Study your course material and attempt the assigned problems before you see a tutor.

                                          - Try to identify specific questions or concepts you need to address during the tutorial
                                             session.

                                          - Expect the tutor to ask you questions about the material. They ask questions to find
out what you understand, and to provide you with information and strategies tailored
                                             to your individual needs.

                                          - Be patient. Several students may come for tutoring at the same time. If the tutors
are especially busy, you may have to wait a little longer for individual assistance.
Use this time to study the material or learn what questions your peers have–you may
realize that you have the same questions!

                                          - Expect the tutor to suggest study strategies to help you improve your overall academic
performance. These strategies can support all of your courses.

                                          - Don’t wait until the day before the test or the day before an assignment is due to
seek assistance. Study a few hours a day, and keep up with your assignments. It is
EASIER to keep up than to catch up!

                                          - Keep a positive attitude about the subject and about your potential to excel. Expand
                                             your growth mindset!

                                          - Treat tutors with respect. Tutors work to reinforce independent learning and are not
responsible for: teaching the class material, completing a student’s homework, completing
a take-home exam or replacing class attendance.

                                          - Communicate with your tutor and provide feedback, since your tutor may not always
know what you need. Inform your tutor if a specific technique used in the session
                                             works for you or not.

                                          - Discussion during tutoring sessions must remain academic in nature.
