Computer Science Associate in Science for Transfer
The Associate in Science in Computer Science for Transfer, also called Computer Science
AS-T Degree, is designed to prepare students for a seamless transfer with junior status
to a CSU campus in a program or major in Computer Science for completion of a baccalaureate
degree. Students completing this Computer Science AS-T degree are guaranteed admission
to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major.
Major Graduates of the Computer Science AS-T will have the skills in computer programming
required for transfer to a four-year college. This degree program prepares students
for transfer to four-year colleges for further study in Computer Science, as well
as related areas such as Computer Engineering. The curriculum includes instruction
in the fundamentals of problem solving and analysis, programming, data structures,
and architecture. Additional requirements include Calculus, Physics and Discrete Mathematics.
Students who complete the two-year Associate in Science degree program are encouraged
to continue their education and earn a Bachelor’s degree. College of the Desert has
transfer agreements with many of the California State Universities and University
of California campuses. Students who are interested in transferring after completion
of the two-year degree program should consult the “Transfer Information” section
of the catalog and discuss their plans with their program advisor or counselor. Four-year
universities may have additional or different course requirements for completion of
lower division. Students need to check the particular institution for their requirements.
The Computer Science AS-T degree requires students to complete 60 CSU transferable
units including completion of IGETC and 30 units in the major with a cumulative GPA
of 2.0 or better.
