California Dream Act
What is the California Dream Act of 2011?
In order to qualify, students must meet the requirements of AB 540 and not be eligible to apply for the FAFSA.
AB 130 allows eligible AB 540 students to apply for and receive scholarships derived from non-state funds at all California public colleges and universities. These include scholarships funded through private donors, alumni contributions and individual departmental efforts. For scholarship opportunities please visit our scholarship information page.
AB 131 allows eligible AB 540 students to access state-funded financial aid programs such as Cal Grants, university grants and Board of Governor’s Fee Waivers. The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) developed the California Dream Act Application to determine the financial need of students who are not citizens, legal permanent residents or eligible non-citizens. Students may complete a Dream Act Application online in order to determine eligibility to receive state financial aid.
The priority deadline for submitting the application to determine financial need for each academic year is from January 1st to March 2nd. You may continue to apply after this point for the Board of Governors Fee Waiver only.
How to Apply
Complete the CA Dream Act Application every year before March 2nd. Submit an AB 540 form to Admission and Records if you are not AB 540 yet and meet requirements.
Allow two weeks for processing and be sure to check your Self-Service and MyCOD email for more information.
